High Street, Thornbury
when it comes to finding a hardware store that offers a wide range of tools, paints and electrical items there is no need to go to out of town stores like B&Q or Focus, Hawkins has it all. Hawkins is a long standing store that stocks a wide range of items that you would never expect to find in a hardware store which also adds to the overall shopping experience. The staff are great and outgoing and if you need a little help or tips then they will try their best to give it.

the great thing about Hawkins is that they are not just a hardware store, the shop is such a large building which makes it possible to offer a good stock range. they sell electrical items as well as paints, tools, accessories and even pans ect. most of the staff have been working at hawkins for a long time making them perfect for giving advice.
hawkins of thornbury is a cracking hardware shop that sells much more than the everyday items that you would normally find in a hard ware store let alone in a small market town. teh prices are a little higher than the nig name retailers but the friendly local service is worth paying the little extra.
hawkins of thornbury really is the towns very own verson of B&Q, they stock just about everything related to hardware but also much much more. they also have good trained staff that have a good understanding about all the products that they stock so if you are after advise then just pop along to hawkins.
hawkins considdering it is an hardware store really could do with a face lift and a touch of paint. but despite that it does not effect the way that the staff are always very helpful and also have a very good understanding of the products and services that they sell. some of the prices are a little expensive but you get that 1-1 personal shopping experiance.
hawkins is a perfect hardware store that you would not expect to find in a small market town such as thornbury. hawkins is a very large store that is perfect to also use as a walk through store to gain access to the high street. they stock so much and also many leading brand names that you would expect to find with bigger name retailers such as b&q ect.
Its nice that we can get most things here in Thornbury but sometimes its at a cost. The hardware products they sell are good and they have a good range in store. The shop is big if a little cold but it serves the purpose. Only thing I would say is that their prices are a little bit B&Q territory. They seem to be quire expensive on some products. Overall a decent store with nice staff. Makes me think of "Open All Hours" and a real good old fashion shopping experience!!!
hawkins loctaed on the main high street sells just about everything that you would expect to find in a hardware shop and more! they stock everything from, screws to nails, paint to glues. they even stock many other lines that you would never expect to find at a hardware shop. saves going to b&q. also have a good amount of staff that helps if you are in a hurry.
Since Hawkins seem to have had a revamp it is so much easier to visit this shop.
It has always been known as a 'walk through' shop and is used every day to gain access from the back of the High Street to the front, often having to fight your way through shoppers on a busy day.
It has now been 'opened up' and made much more customer friendly. Everything is laid out well and most ironmongery, decorating, household goods can be bought there.
Hawkins has always had the reputation of being expensive and I suppose their items are more pricey than B&Q, Wicke's etc., but to be honest, if you add on the price of petrol to get to Cribbs, not to mention the traffic jams if its on a weekend..then the price of things doesnt come across as too bad.
They did start to close between 1 and 2 for lunch but I believe they have now changed back to opening all day. A nice shop with nice friendly helpful staff. Nice to see one of the oldest shops in Thornbury is still going strong and has been modernized recently. Also good easy access at the back of the shop for wheel chair users although not so good at the front as there is quite a steep step.
