Hello - do you want to be part of my Wych Elm mystery club? I was the youth participation officer in Tetbury for Cotswold Council and when I lost my job I switched to writing tales about outreach work. You can join me and my pair of black swans when we meet at the Thornbury Wych Elm every Halloween by re-reading this old copy and joining my club:
"The search is on to Find the next tenant for the Swan Inn in Thornbury. Locals became concerned when the pub chain decide to close the Swan and instructed a security firm to install metal grids on all the windows in order to secure the building a couple of months ago. After previously contacting Enterprise Inn's I was told that the chain were in the process of reopening the pub but the two dates that I was given came and passed and the pub still remained closed. A couple of weeks ago a TO LET sign appeared on the outside of the pub and once again the Swan is featured on the Enterprise Inn's website as being available To Let. Enterprise Inn's has set a rental guide price of £30,000pa and the pub is described as being a large Georgian style building located on the High Street in the town centre of Thurbury, Gloucestershire. The pub boasts a large disused barn and skittle alley plus a rear function room and there is great potential to develop the first and second floors into letting accommodation; this pub would be ideal for somebody new to the industry. There is no mention about the extensive internal refurbishment that the Swan is in desperate need of nor any mention about the external state of disrepair that the Swan is currently in. One concern is that the pub is being promoted as being ideal for somebody new to the industry, the problem with this is that the Swan has changed hands so many times over the last 5-10 years and this would appear to be because no one can seem to turn the pub around. clearly the Swan is crying out for money to be spent on it and by the looks of it Enterprise Inn's have no plans to fund a refurbishment. Is there another other possible use for the building ...
