Last Weeks Weather

Last weeks weather was something of a shock, and though we were told to expect worsening conditions I was surprised to find Thornbury to be much the same as it had been at the start of the year.

One week on we have a fabulous sky and the sun shining overhead, which only leaves me to ask the question - why such a change in only seven days? After a bit of looking around I found that we were spared from even more rain last week because of a combination of heavy rainfall with an absence of wind. Apparently nearly all our rain starts as snow because of the low temperatures we have at cloud level, but a lack of wind meant nothing was there to warm it as it fell closer to the surface of the country. The snow absorbed what heat was in the air, causing a drop in temperature that allowed the snow to fall and cause the delays I witnessed last week.

Even now severe weather warnings continue to be issued in certain parts of the country, but we appear to be fine for the immediate future.

If you want to see any pictures of last weeks snow then you can view the 'Freak Snow' pictures that have recently been added to the gallery. Of course, you're all encouraged to put up any pictures you may have taken too!
