Time is running short for nominating your local heroes

Nominations for the 2010 Community Awards are open until tomorrow, so you still have a small time frame in which you can nominate an unsung hero from the local community.
Every year South Gloucestershire Council hold the awards ceremony to recognise those people who have a made contribution to the their community, whether they be artistic, sporting, or whatever. However, there are criteria that your nominee will have to meet, not least that they have solely made this contribution as a volunteer - so no nominating whoever pulls the best pints at your local!
Since 2003 more than 200 awards have been given to local volunteers across several categories, namely for long service, for young volunteers, and a joint award for two people (because lets face it, so much good work is done as a collaboration).
So, if you're interested in nominating someone (even in this late hour) then you can go to http://www.southglos.gov.uk/NR/exeres/A02F23EA-3451-44B9-8DC0-5A722E911D19 and see if your hero qualifies. Alternatively you can phone 01454 865811 (though I advise using the website first, seeing as it sets out all the criteria very nicely).
As an informal start to proceedings, please feel free to comment and let us know who your local hero is (criteria be damned).
