The national debates have obviously been making for big headlines recently, but I was most looking forward to last nights local hustings. However, I was unfortunate enough to be one of the many thousands of people be stuck outside of the country due to the Eyjafjallajokull eruption last week. This means I managed to miss the hustings and was forced to look up information on last nights local debate. How many of you attended and what were your impressions?

I'm not surprised to hear that there was a consensus on education policy between the local candidates (more money, fewer exams, smaller classes), so if I had a child going to a local school and saw no real difference between policy then I suppose I'd have to vote on different issues. That being said, its been reported that all the parties were pro-nuclear power and anti-Oldbury as a suitable site for it - so perhaps accusations of familiarity are justified?

Luckily there is another set of Hustings being held next week (28th April in Yate) which might be worth attending. Still, a brief synopsis of the hustings leads me to believe I will be voting on party lines and not local ones - can anyone think of a major local policy/stance that should make me re-assess this point of view?
