PEOPLE living near Oldbury nuclear power station can get an update on its operations and activities at an open meeting for the public.

The quarterly Site Stakeholder Group event will also receive a report from site director Joe Lamonby and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, which owns the plant and is responsible for its decommissioning once it stops generating power.

Oldbury, near Thornbury, is one of only two remaining Magnox reactor sites still operating in the UK.

It had originally been due to close in 2008 but that was extended until this year. There are moves to add a further six months on, taking it to the summer of 2011.

The meeting will be held in Oldbury-on-Severn village hall on Wednesday, July 28, at 1pm.

Site regulators from the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate will attend, as well as representatives from the Environment Agency.
