You are clearly more aware, than I am, of the 24-hour usage of the two ATMs at Tesco, so I bow to your superior knowledge. Apart from the shelf stacker witnesses, any other citizens in the area, observing what was going on at the time, would surely have contacted the police by now, without needing to be prompted. My main point, of course, was the police response time.

ReportThere is a chance someone might see something...these cashpoints are used throughout the night for various reasons.
The thieves were apparently disturbed, not by security, but by a group of night shelf stackers going outside to have their **** break!
There is actually a camera trained on the cashpoints....bit silly though that it is fixed so low on the wall apparently they merely threw a cloth over it!! hmm..perhaps it should have been higher. Many cash point machines do have cameras built in or around them..obviously these did not.
Said on tonight's news that raids had taken place in Cheltenham houses in connection to cash point crimes? maybe they have cought them?

ReportIt was reported in last week's Thornbury Gazette (13 May 2010) that the town now has a new police sergeant, who is quoted as saying "Thornbury is a relatively low crime area, and it is important we stay on top of what crime we do have". So it's good that the police are treating seriously this out-of-the-ordinary crime (by Thornbury standards) with a call for assistance from the public, a mere 2½ weeks later, whilst it is fresh in the memory. By appealing for witnesses, presumably the police are hoping that an isomniac was taking an early morning stroll through the supermarket car park, at the time. But shouldn't every ATM have a CCTV camera focused on it? Coincidentally, the new sergeant has come to Thornbury from Staple Hill CID.
