@jmitchell27 You may be right, but I would always be suspicious of any such gathering, where I thought the organisers were not completely impartial. I found it interesting that, on the following morning, the holy one was at GlosS FM giving an on-air "Thought For The Day" on participation in democracy, with glowing references to the previous evening's event, and a prayer to guide us to think carefully when applying our vote. Although it's his (recently renamed) radio station, I believe that he had never given the TFTD on any of the 170 weekdays that Thornbury FM previously broadcast. So important was his message to South Gloucestershire, that it was repeated today (Sunday, 25 April 2010). Whilst his TFTD was non-partisan, I feel very uneasy about any involvement of one hearts-and-minds philosophy (religion) with that of another (politics). Cue Emma Stuart for a discourse on separating the spiritual from the secular ....

Apparently the UKIP candidate (A lady by the name of Jennifer Knight) was at the Hustings on Wednesday night. A leaflet with some information was posted through my front door last night, but other than this I've seen no advertisements for her campaign here at all - I suppose UKIP are putting more funding into more marginal seats where their candidates have a better chance of succeeding.

I'm not a keen political follower, probably typical of many, but the only evidence I've seen that there is a local UKIP candidate is in this post!  I've sen lots from Lib and Tory candidates, bumped into Lab in town, but not a whistle from UKIP Am I just going round with my eyes shut or do they need a serious relook at their publicity?

I didn't attend, but in what way would you expect the questions to be weighted? No doubt attendees would be smart enough to realise when certain candidates were having an easier time of it than others.

    Evangie Alert!

It needs to be said that this 21 April meeting is an evangie event, having been organised by Thornbury Churches Together, and taking place at Thornbury Baptist Church. The present parliamentary incumbent seems to be one of them [*], so don’t be surprised to hear heavily weighted questions.

I just hope to see a future letter from Emma Stuart, in the Thornbury Gazette, railing against those who would seek to mix politics with religion. A quote from John Wesley is always a welcome bonus.

    [* Evidence …

    1. Steve Webb’s website bio: “I have also been actively involved in the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship and in a small cross-party group of MPs who meet together regularly to pray together and support each other and their families.”
