By jmitchell27 | Monday, February 22, 2010, 12:57
All
children up to and including year 6 are invited to write a story about the
Thornbury Roman Coin Hoard. The story should try to answer some of the
mysteries about the coin hoard:
Who might have hoarded them?
Why were they buried?
And why did no-one go back for them?
Children attending schools within the museum’s area or
living within the area but attending schools elsewhere are eligible to enter.
The museum’s area is defined as including these parishes:
Hill, Rockhampton, Falfield, Tortworth,
Charfield, Cromhall, Oldbury on Severn, Thornbury, Tytherington, Rangeworthy,
Aust, Olveston, Alveston, Pilning and Severn Beach, Almondsbury.
Entries should be limited to 1000 words, and submitted in
electronic format in MS Word or similar. We regret that Illustrations
and embellishments cannot be published and will not be taken into account in
the judging.
Entries must be original work by the child entering but
parents and teachers may assist with research and transcription into digital
format if necessary.
Entries can be submitted from home or through school.
Entries will be judged on overall quality of writing but
special consideration will be given to imagination and creativity, historical
accuracy and good use of English.
Entries will be published on the Thornbury People website in
a standard font style. Winning entries will also be published on www.thornburymuseum.org.uk.
Entries will be only identified on the website by an entry
reference code. Winning entries will be identified by the child’s first name,
age and home town/village or school with permission from a parent or guardian.
Entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form; all
details on the entry form will remain confidential and protected under the Data
Protection Act, 1998.
