Give Blood This Christmas

Often I will post stories about events that are connected to charities, but today I want to remind local people about blood donation; a cause that I support strongly.

This Christmas Eve a mobile donation van visited Alveston, wherein a member of staff informed me that this time of year usually see's a lot of donations, but for whatever reason there appeared to be fewer people this year. It occurred to me that the weather could be a deciding factor in whether people will leave their houses to give blood (and with all the terrible news we've received recently I wouldn't blame them). However, it is this sort of weather that causes even more accidents, both locally and nationally, putting even more strain on the NHS to provide accident victims with the blood they need to survive.

No one likes to be harangued about these things, so I will stop here and just ask that you consider attending one of the donation sessions coming to Thornbury in the new year. Blood donation is a relatively quick and easy way to give to a good cause, and there is no doubt that what you are giving could do something amazing for someone out there.

If you're interested in giving blood then the next donation session taking place in Thornbury will be in the Armstrong hall on the 15th of January. For more information about blood donation, as well as dates and venues you can search http://www.blood.co.uk/.
