Is the national bakery chain Greggs really planning to come to Thornbury?

A number of
months ago I reported exclusively on the Thornburypeople web site that the bakery
giant was actively looking for retail premises within the area.
At the time
Greggs did not feel that the town was able to offer suitable premises for their
business but it has now been confirmed that the group have submitted a planning
application to South Gloucestershire Council for the purpose of erecting a new
shop front and signs to number 4 St Mary Way.
The empty
store that Greggs are planning to take over sits right next to the popular Parsons
Bakery and is certainly going to have an impact on their business.
If all goes
well and permission is granted then we could see Greggs opening its doors this
autumn
When I have
previously spoken to local shoppers about the type of stores that they would
like to see in Thornbury Greggs has always been mentioned along with a shoe
shop. Now that we have welcomed WHSmith to our town and possibly Greggs what's
next for the town?
Are
you supportive of the news? or do you feel that Thornbury does not need this
type of business? And what other type of shops would you like to see coming to
our town.

@StanMor, I agree Thornbury does tend to attract the same types of businesses mainly hair salons, cafes, charity shops and estate agents. But like I was told recently the people in the area must want them after all they are still open and seem to all be going strong. Although I thought given the lending situation I am surprised at the town has not lost one or two estate agents.

ReportWhat is it about the St Mary's centre that encourages duplication? We have two card stores in Thornbury, right opposite each other. Now we will have two bakers, side by side.
It's getting to be like estate agents, who also seem to congregate.
Yes, Any new business is welcome and Greggs is a good brand.
Will they be solely takeaway or will they have yet another tea and bun facility?
