Easter Compton in fight to reopen post office

People power is the force behind a move to try and reopen a post office in Easter Compton near Thornbury, so far it is understood that more than 250 residents have signed a petition calling on the post office to reopen in the village.

The post office closed last Wednesday and the local residents are furious that they were only given a few days notice.  The closure of the post office now means that the nearest post office is now in the neighbouring village pilning. Although the Pilning post office is not all that far away it is far enough for people who do not have any form of transport as well as for the 50 plus local elderly residents who live in the village.

It is understood that the post office also attracted people from outside the area on a regular basis including people from Patchway.

Although it would appear that the post office could do very little to stop this closure  as the building was sold which resulted in the withdrawal of the premises. According to the post office they made attempts to find an alternative location but failed in finding one.

The post office have stressed that the removal of a post office in the village is only a temporary one and that they will continue to search for an alternative location. The post office have also asked that if any local residents have any ideas on a suitable location then they would urge them to contact the post office on 0845 60 16 260
