Plans to build a new INCINERATOR in Severn Beach near Thornbury have gone up in smoke as planners unanimously turned down SITA’s application.

The members of the South Gloucestershire development control committee all voted on the application and the result led to the application being declined.  The proposal for an Energy Recovery Centre would have been constructed off Severn Road.

One local resident from Serven Beach that I spoke to said “let them build it in the SITA’s Managing Directors garden! We don’t want it here” he continued to say “the residents have spoken, the planners have spoken now sod off!”

Another local resident said “its nice to see that the planners care about the local residents and this is a job well done”

It would seem that the local residents feel that same, they clearly don’t want this construction built near their homes, but the question also needs to be asked is it something that we need? After all currently the non recyclable waste all goes to landfill. Well some people seem to think that constructing a incinerator is the way to handle it but local residents feel that it is not the way forward.

What are your views on the matter? Do you think an incinerator is the way to handle non recyclable waste? Would you mind one near your home? Let us know.
