Police are appealing for help to trace a man who has absconded from Leyhill prison in South Gloucestershire.

Nathan Wrest, 33, of Southmead, Bristol, was sentenced to a six-year jail term for wounding with intent last year.

He is described as white, about 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build, with dark shaven hair and tattoos on both upper arms.

He was last seen at the open prison at 4pm on Saturday September 04 2010. Since this time officers and staff from the South Gloucestershire and Southmead policing areas have been making extensive enquiries to trace him.

Anyone who has seen him or has any other information about his whereabouts is urged to contact South Gloucestershire police on 0845 456 7000.

Anyone who knows where he is now should call 999.

Leyhill is a minimum-security prison housing prisoners classified by the Home Office as category D: prisoners who can be reasonably trusted in open conditions.
