Thornbury 2nd XI continued their dominance in Premier Two with another comfortable win at the expense of Westbury, Wilts.
-
Did it again!
Captain David Hammond won the toss and elected to bowl first on a good wicket and
with one eye on the clock.
Westbury openers Pothecary and Smith began in fairly confident fashion with the odd
bad ball being hit for boundaries although Thornbury’s opening attack of James
Tunnicliffe and Luke Franklin still provided plenty of problems.
With the opening partnership approaching 50 Hammond turned to his spinners in the
guise of Chalky White and Greg Mallitte.
This change immediately reaped reward as White has Pothecary (22) well caught in
the deep by Jerry Westwood.
The spin twins then put a complete stranglehold on the Westbury innings as the runs
dried up and the wickets kept falling.
Mallitte dismissed Smith (33) via a good stumping from Tom Moore and White
quickly took care of Whiting, Brooks and Kesby.
The pair bowled their allotted 13 overs straight through and ended with excellent
figures, Mallitte 13-3-22-2 and Chalky an outstanding 13-4-30-6.
Tunnicliffe returned to dismiss Evans and Jerry Westwood ended the innings by
bowling Tuck for a face saving 29.
Westbury all out for 132 in the last of their 45 overs, the Thornbury side completing
their overs in just 2 ½ hours.
After the break Thornbury had no problems in knocking of their target with openers
Stutter (59 not out) and Reid (60 not out) completing the task in the 23rd over.
The game was all over by 5pm and the Thornbury boys were able to get back in time
for the start of the football.
