In a speech in Liverpool, the prime minister said groups should be able to run post offices, libraries, transport services and shape housing projects.
Also announcing plans to use dormant bank accounts to fund projects, Mr Cameron said the concept would be a "big advance for people power".
So should the plans be implemented in Thornbury and the local area what would you like to run? What do you think you could run better?
The prime minister said that community projects would be established in four parts of the UK - Liverpool; Eden Valley, Cumbria; Windsor and Maidenhead; and the London borough of Sutton - as part of efforts to "turn government completely on its head".
But we would like to know what in Thornbury you would like to change, if you were given the chance to take control of a local project or service what would it be and what changes would you make.

    I think this is a fab idea, and they should go 1 step further by getting people that are on the dole working there to earn their dole!
    Firstly 1 would want to take over the library, as it needs a big shake up. It needs bringing up to date and even the sign is old and tacky!!
    Then I would like to take control of the Mundays and make it more for children. May be use the club house as something aimed at children. Give them somewhere to go on an evening.
    Then i would take over the shopping centre and make massive changes so that Thornbury have decent shops, scrap a load of the charity shops as clearly the town has too many. Get shops like Newlook, Next, Mc Donalds, Greggs, Shoe Zone, pound land, Block Busters, a mobile phone shop in the town. That way people might want to come and shop in Thornbury!

    One of those ideas that sound good and will work in small doses, but ..
    * The government wants volunteers with time to spare.
    * People with time to spare are most often, retired (the unemployed are busy looking for work)
    * The government is raising the retiring age, so there will be less people around to volunteer.
    * Spot the flaw!

    But take heart - Thornbury has a thriving Volunteer ethos and an excellent Volunteer office to match jobs to people. The Museum, for example, is already run by 100% volunteer effort.
