Thornbury is a nice small town with many independant shops and few chainstores. Yes, if major stores moved in it might improve choice a bit but at cost of making the high street bland and boring, identical to many other towns. Thornbury needs an economic boost, like many other places, but what exactly needs to change?
I speak as a recent incomer (2 years ago) who liked what I saw.
the rents that have been charged do nothing but deter all but the chains or peeps with money but no feeling for what the comunity wants and precious little business sence....thank god for riddifords who manage to follow the criteria for a successful small grocer in the modern times...mainly by standing by the ethics it had in the first place all those years ago...i presume they own their shop.
i have lived in a village outside of thornbury since 1976 and in the last couple of years thornbury has been speeding up the downhill trend. lol
the farmers markets and food fares have been great

yeah thornbury has such a long way to go, however like they say its people power, thornbury has massive potential but i cant see things getting better until rents drop, the council slacken the red tape and start to invest in making the town great again. Thornbury used to be a fantastic town with every key shop you needed, now me dont even have a show shop!!!
to trucks...[there isnt a reply button here is there?]
