As part of Relentless: keeping you safe this summer, patrolling officers stopped and checked the car in Gillingstool just after midnight and found a quantity of white powder.
A 35-year-old man from Gloucester arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug has been released on conditional police bail pending the results of forensic tests.
Neighbourhood PC Neil Whyman said: "We are committed to tackling drug dealing and the associated crime that can impact on our communities. We rely on information from the public to help us keep the Thornbury area safe from drug crime.
"I would ask anyone with any information about drug supply to contact the neighbourhood team at Thornbury police station on 0845 456 7000. Alternatively contact the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestopper-uk.org. They never ask your name or trace your call."
