Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that a man from Charfield near Thornbury has been jailed for drug crime after a joint operation by Thornbury-based officers and neighbouring Gloucestershire police.

Police have confirmed that the 26-year-old appeared in Bristol Crown Court in October and was jailed for 15 months after being convicted of possession of cannabis and cocaine with intent to supply and production of cannabis.

He was arrested as part of an operation in May which also saw a 20-year-old man from Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, charged for possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.

The 20-year-old was sentenced to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, placed under a community order until June 2012 and ordered to pay costs.

Thornbury PC Neil Whyman, who co-ordinated the operation, said: "We will always try to act on information from the community about drug dealing, as we know the impact drugs and the associated crimes can have on local people.

"Anyone with any information about crime can contact neighbourhood officers at Thornbury police station on 101. Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call."
