More than 25 Local residents have already said no to plans to build 3 new three story town houses on a small amount of land near the Thornbury Fire Station just off Gloucester Road.

One local resident that I spoke to said “I have been in the area for more than twenty years and I am fed up with people buying land on the cheap just to make a quick buck by building houses and selling them at a quick profit!” he continued by saying “how would these developers like it if I started building a house at the end of their garden?”

Another neighbour said “Thornbury can’t support any more houses! It has to stop and it has to stop now!”

Part of the problem is that the proposed plans that have already been refused previously by South Gloucestershire Council Planning department are for 3 large three story town houses that will mean they will be taller than the houses surrounding them and this will result in home owners living nearby losing their privacy.

Another concern amongst many is the effect that any such development would have on the property prices in the immediate area.

A planning decision is due to be made in September and the planning department at South Gloucestershire Council have confirmed that a number of objections have already been raised.

Do you think Thornbury has room for new houses? Do you agree that there is demand for new houses in the area? Let us know your views on the proposed plans.

a Waitrose would be good but I really dont see any big names coming to the town UNTIL things change.

i would like to see the old type terrace houses being built with 2 or more bedrooms, also a decent amount of land at the back to grow some veggies and have a relaxed eating area..

also the back to back terrace with a small lane in between the ends of gardens so as messy stuff hasn't to be taken through the house...of course they should be ecologically sound

i havnt read the report in this weeks gazette oct 28 but the idea of having the houses within walking distance of amenities is good....even better when we get a waitrose or sainsburies lol....and our high st. etc can have a larger kalidiscope of local shops.

am worried that the allotments will suffer ...just going to find out if they will be compromised

Agreed. The town needs housing to bring in enough people to support local facilities (shos, schools, sports centre) etc and it needs cheap housing to give first time buyers a leg up the ladder. However, 'back garden' and infill developments tend to cram in as much as they can rather than respect what is already there so the council would be right (if it is in their power) to say no to anything that overlooks a neighbour.

there is still a massive demand for housing, town houses are the way forword and are the "new" flats! they save room and bring all the requirments to life.

however having said that i know i would be very annoyed if someone built one at the end of my garden!!!

Plus if people keep building houses then everything eles needs to expand ie shops and local entertainment.
