WINTERBOURNE United gave it their best shot, but they were unable to prevent Tuffley Rovers guaranteeing themselves a place in the League Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 victory.

Tuffley dominated the first half, scoring twice in the opening half-hour to lead 2-0 at the interval.

Luckless Winterbourne did get the ball in the net but the match officials ruled the ball had been knocked out of the Tuffley keeper's hands.

The second period was much closer and Liam Robson pulled a goal back for Winterbourne, but it proved not quite enough as Tuffley climbed to the top of Group One, enough to book them that semis berth.

In the league, third-placed Thornbury Town tumbled to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of visiting Lydney Town, who now lie second in the table on goal difference behind leaders Tuffley.
