The South Gloucestershire Council has already taken delivery of a new fleet of gritters and dedicated web pages have been set up on the councils website where members of the public can report a road that needs gritting and you can even request a grit bin refill.
South Gloucestershire council said "We aim to maintain highways throughout the winter so that they can be used with reasonable care. Our programme reflects the relative importance of the various routes and the prevailing conditions at a given time.
If there is frost, ice or light snow, our priorities for precautionary salting are Major routes connecting centres of population, Major commuter routes, and Major bus routes.
We may not always be able to carry out precautionary salting of all routes. In heavy snowfall, our priority will be to clear the above routes plus at least one route to every village. We will give priority to those with the largest population, and those with no shops or bus services".
The council also has a dedicated page aimed at providing South Gloucestershire residents and visitors with regular severe weather updates. The severe weather update page includes information on the councils services including waste collections, transport and libraries.
If you are looking for information on affected motorways and trunk roads then the Highways agency website lists information on all affected motorways.
