Norville Opticians in Keynsham near Bristol has helped to raise more than £12000 through its involvement with the Saltford Santa Dash which took place just before Christmas.

500 runners dressed as Santa covered a five–mile, figure-of-eight course through the picturesque lanes of nearby Saltford while 200 younger 'elves' ran, walked or toddled a special shorter course.

All were raising money to provide a defibrillator for the local sports ground and also to make a donation to CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) following the tragic death in 2009 of a Saltford teenager who died of cardiac arrest while playing football.

The event organiser was optometrist Roger Spooner who knew the teenager and his family. Following his retirement Roger sold his practice in Keynsham to Norville Opticians.
