The Revd Dr Jan van der Lely has been appointed as the new Vicar of Thornbury and Oldbury – following the death of Reverend John Suddards.

Dr van der Lely's Induction and Institution took place yesterday in St Mary's Parish Church (September 4) where she was welcomed into the parish by the Bishop of Gloucester.

She was previously an assistant curate in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

Dr van der Lely said it was "a great honour" to be called to serve as vicar and that "the people in the parish are at a stage now when they are ready to look to the future."

Mr Suddards, 59, was found dead in the vicarage in Thornbury in February. A 47-year-old man has been charged with his murder.
