New bakery store in Thornbury proves a real hit with shoppers
The bakery giant Greggs indicated to Thornburypeople.co.uk back last year that the bakery chain were actively looking for a suitable retail unit in Thornbury, back last year a company spokesman for the chain said that the company was looking for the right store and once they found one they would press ahead with plans to open up in the town.
I have previously asked local shoppers and local residents what type of companies they would like to see open in the Thornbury area, Greggs was within the top five along with a shoe shop, car parts and accessories store and a dvd rental store. Thornbury has previously had all three of these over the years but the town's only shoe shop Thomas Ford closed both of their stores a few years back.
DVD rental chain Choices Video also closed their High street store in Thornbury when the company went into administration. Lastly a once popular car parts store called Roaduser once occupied a retail store in the town until the Gloucester based owner sold the company to rivals Motorworld. Motorworld rebranded the store but then went into administration a year later resulting in the Thornbury store being closed.
So now that the town is playing host to a Greggs and a WH Smith's I wonder how long it will be until another well known high street name becomes attracted to the town.
