Avon and Somerset Police are trying to catch two people responsible for a distraction burglary in Alveston on Monday. Police say that an elderly woman had her handbag stolen by two distraction burglars who talked their way into her home on the premise of looking for a lost cat.
It is understood that the pair knocked on the window of a house in Quarry Road, Alveston, shortly after 6pm last Monday November 7th. The occupant a 94-year-old woman opened the rear door on a chain, but the two men forced the door open, breaking the chain, and pushed past the woman.
The lady asked them to leave, which they did, but in doing so they took the ladies handbag.
Avon and Somerset police have confirmed that Crime Scene Investigators have visited the address to see if they can recover any forensic evidence.
The two suspects are both described as white men aged around 30.
One was thick set, average height, with short dark hair and a tall forehead. He was wearing a dark jacket and dark trousers.
The other man is of similar description, and the elderly woman has suggested she thinks they might be brothers, because they looked similar.
Police would like to hear from anyone who might have information which could help the enquiry.
They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in the Alveston area around 6pm last night.
Anyone who can help is being urged to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
