A PUB in Bristol is hoping to put smiles on the faces of deprived children across the city with the launch of its annual Christmas Toy Appeal.

The Ship Inn, in Alveston, is helping to make Christmas more special for children either in care or in families with low incomes, who would not normally receive a Christmas present.
Pub landlady Donna Telford, 47, is asking the community to get behind the initiative by donating a toy to those children less fortunate.
She has put up a 20ft Christmas tree in the pub adorned with 100 tags containing a child's name and is inviting regulars to pick one off and buy a present for the child named on the tag and to return the gift to the pub.
All the toys donated to the 15th century Tudor Coaching Inn in Thornbury will then be delivered to deprived children aged from birth to 14 years this Christmas.
Mrs Telford, who has run the appeal for the past 10-years, says the scheme will make children happy and will also reward donators with the feeling that they are carrying out a kind-hearted deed.
She said: "The Ship is renowned for its charitable efforts throughout the year and our toy appeal finishes off 2012 perfectly in terms of helping others in need.
"There are children without families and other families who cannot afford to buy a Christmas gift but our scheme will ensure these children have something to open.
"I just hope people will get behind the initiative and donate a gift to the appeal.
"It does not have to cost a lot of money, as I am sure the children would welcome anything they are given."
Mrs Telford first thought of the scheme while working at a pub in Lancashire and during the first appeal she collected more than 250 presents for deprived children in the area.
She hopes despite the current economic climate people will find a few pounds to buy a gift for a child in need this Christmas.
The deadline for presents to be handed in at the pub is December 18, so they can be delivered to the children in time for Christmas.
