The owner of a Gloucestershire based gardening school is to present a special workshop on border design as part of a local garden centre's celebration of spring.
Gardening expert Sue Gibson
Sue Gibson, whose School of Gardening is based in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire is to join in the fun at the Wyevale Thornbury Garden Centre's Spring Gardening Celebration by running a complimentary workshop on garden border design.
The workshop, to be held at the centre on Tuesday 24 April at 10am, will focus on how to design borders.
It will comprise a short lecture followed by a practical demonstration where participants will learn how to select plants by their form, texture and colour and then how to assemble a border.
Sue Gibson said: "This is one of the most popular workshops in my school and I am delighted to have been asked to take part in the celebration.
"Gardening is such an important part of my life that I am pleased to share it."
Those taking part will then be able to put their new-found knowledge into practice using plants from around the centre which they will be able to purchase at a discount.
Garden Centre Manager Simon Rose said: "I am really looking forward to welcoming Sue to Wyevale and to our Spring Gardening Celebration.
"Space is limited so places will be allocated on a 'first come, first served basis' .
"It is just one of the activities we are planning over the next couple of weeks.
"We will be handing out free activity sheets to give youngsters tips on how to grow cress in a variety of containers including yoghurt pots.
"Children who complete the sheets will be given a packet of cress seeds so they can grow their own cress hair."
Simon added: "Photographers are also being invited to take part in a 'Spring' photographic competition with every picture entered going on display and my favourite winning a £50 gift voucher. "
Staff will also be available on selected days during the fortnight to give visitors complimentary advice on looking after their gardens this spring.
The event coincides with the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) National Gardening Week, which takes place from April 16 until 22 and is aimed at encouraging everyone to get involved in gardening.
Youngsters who complete an activity sheet can collect free packets of seeds, while stocks last, at the Wyevale Thornbury Garden Centre.
The Spring Gardening Celebration, which started last Saturday and lasts until Sunday, April 29, is one of a series of free events being organised at the Wyevale Thornbury Garden Centre throughout the year on a number of different gardening topics.
