Cyclist killed in Severn Bridge Road Race in Elberton yesterday

A cyclist taking part in the Severn Bridge Road Race died when he collided with a car in Elberton yesterday.

Police say that the cyclist - a man in his 20s - was travelling down the B4461 Vattingstone Lane  towards a left-hand bend at about 12.45pm when he collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.

Despite being given treatment the cyclist was later declared dead at the scene. The race was subsequently abandoned.

The road was closed for a detailed examination of the scene by collision investigators.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help enquiries.

    Update: Film of cycle race sought by collision investigators.

    Police are appealing for anyone who may have filmed the race yesterday to contact them.

    A spokesman said: "It is possibly people were videoing the cycle race and any filmed material could assist our enquiries."
