Two men absconded from HMP Layhill at the end of last month and are wanted by police.

Stephen Rees aged 31 and Liam Ahearne, aged 24, absconded from the South Gloucestershire prison at about 9pm on Wednesday January 30, 2013.

Ahearne was serving an indeterminate sentence for aggravated burglary and Rees for wounding.

A police spokesman said: "It's believed they have connections with the South West area as well as the Merthyr area and Rhymney Valley, in particular Blackwood, Markham and Bargoed areas.

"It's believed there may be a potential risk to the public due to the fact that the individuals are no longer in the custody of the prison service."

Anyone who sees these two men or anyone who may know their location is asked to call us immediately on 999.
